Psalm 36:9

For with thee is the fountain of life: in thy light shall we see light. [Psalm 36:9] God is the source of everything. He is not one being among other beings, the largest being of all. God is ‘to be’ itself, and everything else is creation and creature. I used to wonder that if I were able to meditate deeply enough on Christ, move beyond words and concepts and images, whether I might begin to glean just a tiny fleck of his light.

In Romans 1:20, Paul says that the very world around us reveals the majesty of God, and we are without excuse if we do not see: “For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead.” It is as though Paul is saying: Just look around you! Creation tells of God; it is replete with design and purpose. Look at the sky, the seas, the astonishing variety of things; the intricacies of creation, the miracles of sight, the wonder of seeds and sunlight; the marvels of love and longing.

It comes back around, again and again: those who seek God will surely find him, for he wants to be found. But those who deny him blind themselves in their own darkness. Christ restores our sight, and guides us out of our darkness into his perfect light.
