A Harvest Moon is the full moon that occurs closest to the autumnal equinox, when the sun appears to cross the celestial equator. It marks the beginning of autumn in the Northern Hemisphere, and the end of winter in the Southern Hemisphere. Like clockwork, the seasons fall into place.
